Scam Alert: Fraudulent “Security Notices” Targeting Members

We’ve recently seen scam letters that falsely claim to be from Heartland Credit Union. These messages use our logo, professional formatting, and urgent language about “unauthorized access” or “unusual activity,” along with fake phone numbers and representative names.

Scams Rise During the Holiday Season

Fraud attempts increase this time of year as criminals try to take advantage of busy schedules, holiday shopping, and year-end distractions. That makes unexpected “security alerts” feel more believable—so please stay extra cautious.

What to Watch For

  • Claims of suspicious activity on your account
  • Requests that you call an unfamiliar number
  • Alarming transaction details meant to create urgency
  • Requests to purchase gift cards and provide their codes

Protect Yourself

  • Do not call numbers or click links in unexpected messages
  • Verify directly using our official contact information
  • Never share passwords, PINs, or verification codes
  • Report any suspicious communication to us immediately
